Disney – why are the tickets different from the UK?
Yes I know I have just come back from my last trip but the next one is looming. This time we are travelling back to Florida for some R&R. We have visited all the parks at one time or another and have spent quite a lot time discussing our options and what is best value to see the most on this visit. I am sure … Continue reading Disney – why are the tickets different from the UK?
Tonight BBC 2 19.00-20.00 Great American Rail Journeys
By pure coincidence the TV show that inspired me to create New England Road Trip by Max and the Mount Washington Cog Railway is repeated tonight! Last night the repeat showed Michael Portillo walking past the very shops that I walked past two weeks ago. If it wasn’t for this programme I wouldn’t have visited Plymouth. So thank you BBC and Michael Portillo. New England … Continue reading Tonight BBC 2 19.00-20.00 Great American Rail Journeys
New England – Portland Head Light
After failing miserably to get up close to a lighthouse north of Brunswick in the Ship City of Bath, the nearest was seeing the lighthouse across the bay at 5 Islands and back of the little Doubling Point lighthouse opposite the ship yards in Bath, I put all my efforts in heading south of Portland. I could of course taken a harbour cruise and seen … Continue reading New England – Portland Head Light
New England – Plymouth, where it all began almost 400 years ago
My road trip was nearing it’s final day and my flight wasn’t until 22.00 so I made the decision to tackle the Boston traffic head on. I set my trusty Tom Tom for Plymouth Rock from Seabrook a distance of about 80 miles. As I approached the half way line there was Boston in front of me and toll roads at almost every turn. I … Continue reading New England – Plymouth, where it all began almost 400 years ago
New England – Accents and nicknames
I have always thought for a little island like the UK there are so many different dialects. From Cornish, Welsh, Scottish, Liverpool, Manchester, Saath (South) London, Yorkshire, Newcastle and so on. I think this was the first time that I was actually aware of different accents in the USA. Staying at the bed and breakfast in North Conway meant that my path was crossed with visitors … Continue reading New England – Accents and nicknames
New England – Kennebunkport ME
Coincidently George H Bush had just been transferred from the Bush family home for medical treatment in Maine Kennebunkport a couple of days before my visit. It helped that the day was gloriously sunny. I was on route between Freeport, ME and Merrimack, NH and made a snap decision to deviate from the route to mad a short stop in Kennebunkport, ME. I am so glad … Continue reading New England – Kennebunkport ME
Bye Bye Virgin Atlantic!
I can select my seat on Monday 72 hours before departure. I can see no reason after my return to have Virgin Atlantic as my preferred carrier. I have been a loyal economy passenger for nearly 30 years and have at one stage or another been in the frequent flyer programme or Virgin Holidays Loyalty Club. Since they changed to so many different ways to fly … Continue reading Bye Bye Virgin Atlantic!
New England 27 May – Freeport, ME
If you have heard of L.L Bean then you might know that they started in Freeport Maine. I think it should be renamed Beantown. This company dominate the whole town. There is an L.L Bean campus comprising of three different stores that are open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. I thought it was weird when I arrived the following morning at 08.30 … Continue reading New England 27 May – Freeport, ME
New England 26 May – Mount Washington
At over 6,200 ft Mount Washington is the highest peak in the White Mountains. Apparently where it is and with it’s height in the North East almost all weather patterns cross over it causing sudden changes in the weather. Mark Twain is quoted saying ‘if you don’t like the weather in New England now, then wait a few minutes!’ Not a truer word said. I … Continue reading New England 26 May – Mount Washington
New England 25 May – North Conway, NH
As I am so organised I set the GPS (Sat Nav) with favourites and set it for Moose thinking that it was taking me to the Spruce Moose Bed & Breakfast in North Conway. I travelled through stunning forests and lakes and had about 30 miles to go when I came across Settlers Green Outlet Village which I knew was in North Conway. I stopped … Continue reading New England 25 May – North Conway, NH
