If you have heard of L.L Bean then you might know that they started in Freeport Maine. I think it should be renamed Beantown. This company dominate the whole town. There is an L.L Bean campus comprising of three different stores that are open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. I thought it was weird when I arrived the following morning at 08.30 and just wandered in.
The whole of the main street has been taken over with other brands and their outlet stores. The old buildings are occupied by Abercrombie and Gap as well as others. The side streets are full of small boutiques and cafes. All the parking lots are free which is a refreshing change for a resort area. Amtrak has a station there which seems to be on a request basis only towards Boston or Brunswick.
Full of New England charm you can shop for bargains and souvenirs. I used it as a base to discovery Brunswick and Bath to the north and Portland to the South.
