The count down is on. I have done all my planning and research and this week I put the finishing touches on my latest road trip. Probably missing some ‘must not miss’ areas but feeling pretty pleased with the result.
If you have read my earlier blog on planning in progress or Great Rail Journeys you will remember that I want to visit Mount Washington and the famous Cog Railway. As luck would have it I managed to book onto a discounted return departure. This seemed to only be available on day 3 of my trip. The normal rate is $72 but the offer was for $56 which seemed like a great deal. The booking process was simple enough and I received confirmation almost immediately. So that is the afternoon of day 3.
The other activity I couldn’t pass up was to go on a Moose Sighting Tour. There are a few references to my nickname in this website but I have been known as Moose for over 30 years especially by my husband. It is a term of en – deer – ment excuse the pun. I have to get to Gorham by 18.45 for a 19.00 start. I am really excited and keeping everything crossed that we get to see some Moose in their wild habitat. Often elusive they are more likely to be seen at sunrise or dusk.
After North Conway and the White Mountains it is over to Maine and Freeport for two nights. I might try and do a lighthouse tour but if not I am going to drive to a couple. New camera and fantastic scenery, what could be better?
I will visit Portland, the largest city in Maine, on my way back south towards Boston. If time is on my side I really want to drive towards Plymouth to see the rock where it all began for the settlers from the UK.
So if anyone has some New England suggestions for me please let me know……..
I will be posting when I can about my road trip so look out for more!
I can select my seat on Monday 72 hours before departure. I can see no reason after my return to select Virgin Atlantic as my preferred carrier. I have been a loyal economy passenger for nearly 30 years and have at one stage or another been in the frequent flyer programme or Virgin Holidays Loyalty Club. Since they changed to so many different ways to fly and pay and take baggage and at the same time halved the points and doubled the tier points it will be impossible for me to collect enough of either to be of any benefit to me. Disappointed to say the least.
