4th July Mount Rushmore National Memorial No Fireworks

Happy 4th America!

I always thought that Mount Rushmore was one of the places that crowds flocked to on the Fourth of July every year to watch a firework display behind and over the faces of the four Presidents at the memorial. Apparently due to environmental reasons there hasn’t been a regular Fourth of July Firework display since 2008 with the exception for 3 July 2020 when there was a standalone display where Donald J. Trump spoke at the event.  There was criticism because it was during the Covid Pandemic and from the Ingenuous Peoples.

They had been regularly held every Independence Day from 1998 and 2008 but because of the fears of causing wildfires and the possible contamination of drinking water in the National Park the NPS decided to end the tradition.

There are plenty of other places to see celebratory fireworks in the Black Hills of South Dakota such as Devil’s Tower
