National Park Service (NPS) announces the best dates for viewing Cherry Blossom along the Tidal Basin
The brutal winter season has delayed the Cherry Blossom viewing season and the NPS has just announced that 2026 will be expected between 29 March and 01 April. These dates are still subject to the weather conditions.
The peak date is when 70% of the Yoshino Cherry Blossoms are open. There are 3,800 trees planted around the Tidal Basin. A gift from Japan in 2024 is providing an additional 250 trees that will be planted over the coming months.
The cherry trees were presented as a ‘gift of friendship’ to the USA from Japan and over 3,000 trees of different varieties on March 26 1912.
