Always wanting to be at the forefront of ‘Worlds Largest’ or World’s First’ Las Vegas’s skyline is currently dominated by the World’s Largest Sphere.
Officially opening to the Las Vegas pubic at the end of September.
The screen inside rises from the ground for 250ft and all round. You will be fully immersed when sitting in the bowl. The Sphere will be used for concerts and the Irish Band U2 will be performing a series of 25 concerts through to November. It is anticipated that there will be concerts and sporting events where the spectators will be surrounded by the action and sound. Performers will be seen as a 360 JumboTron showing close-ups of their heroes.
There are apparently 160,000 speakers inside the bowl as well as being able to offer 4D experiences with vibrating seats and wind machines.
The record-breaking Sphere sits at 366ft tall and 516ft wide. In addition to being the world’s largest sphere, the interior bowl also has 1.2 million LED lights the size of hockey pucks.
The venue can seat nearly 18,000 people. A pedestrian walkway to the Venetian resort complex will connect the sphere to the strip.
Independence Day in Las Vegas was the first time that some of the striking power of the Sphere was unveiled. Visitors were taken aback by the skyline suddenly having an enormous eye-ball. Other displays were the Stars & Stripes, a basketball and the earth itself.
Tickets are on sale now for uniquely produced films to show off the capabilities of being shown at the MSG Sphere and it looks like prices vary from $49 to $199 for films and nearly $1000 for U2.
MSG Sphere is located one block east from the Vegas strip, the address is 255 Sands Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89169 and the nearest Monorail Station is MGM Station an approximately 11 minute walk from the Venetian Resort.
Interestingly Stratford, East London the site of the 2012 Olympic’s is currently the object of planning permission for a London version. Nothing has been granted and there is plenty of opposition to obvious light and noise pollution it will no doubt cause.
