After seeing a quiz question about which is the smallest coin in America I thought it would be a good idea to talk about money especially if you are first time visitor to the States.
Here is a guide to the coins and notes in circulation and that you will encounter on your visit to USA
Coins
Cent – 1c – penny –Â face Abraham Lincoln – reverse Lincoln Memorial or 2 ears of wheat
Nickel – 5c – face Thomas Jefferson – reverse Monticello
Dime – 10c – face Franklin D Roosevelt – reverse torch with olive branch “E PLURIBUS UNUM” which means, “Out of many, one” – smallest coin
Quarter – 25c – Washington – reverse Eagle and from 1999 different states that make up the union
NotesÂ
All notes were the same size and colour but newer notes have different shades
1 dollar – Face – George Washington
2 dollar – Face – Thomas Jefferson
5 dollar – Face – Abraham Lincoln
10 dollar – Face – Alexander Hamilton
20 dollar – Face – Andrew Jackson
50 dollar – Face – Ulysses S. Grant
100 dollar – Face – Benjamin Franklin
TIP: Caution when paying with notes – make sure that you have selected the correct denomination from your wallet as all the notes are the same size and it is easy to pull out the wrong one.
TIP: There are many cards that you can load before your visit but try to find one that has no exchange fees and is close to the inter bank rate as possible. Look at this link for Prepaid Travel Cards.
