US Money

After seeing a quiz question about which is the smallest coin in America I thought it would be a good idea to talk about money especially if you are first time visitor to the States.

Here is a guide to the coins and notes in circulation and that you will encounter on your visit to USA

Coins

Cent – 1c – penny –  face Abraham Lincoln – reverse Lincoln Memorial or 2 ears of wheat

Nickel – 5c – face Thomas Jefferson – reverse Monticello

Dime – 10c – face Franklin D Roosevelt – reverse torch with olive branch “E PLURIBUS UNUM” which means, “Out of many, one” – smallest coin

Quarter – 25c – Washington – reverse Eagle and from 1999 different states that make up the union

All notes were the same size and colour but newer notes have different shades

1 dollar – Face – George Washington

2 dollar – Face – Thomas Jefferson

5 dollar – Face – Abraham Lincoln

10 dollar – Face – Alexander Hamilton

20 dollar – Face – Andrew Jackson

50 dollar – Face – Ulysses S. Grant

100 dollar – Face – Benjamin Franklin

TIP: Caution when paying with notes – make sure that you have selected the correct denomination from your wallet as all the notes are the same size and it is easy to pull out the wrong one.
